A large private sector company has 'refreshed' their provision of PDAs to their executives, and has donated 3,500 of the older model to a Bristol recycling company, Greensource Solutions Ltd. They in turn have asked SUMS Online, as a leading supplier of educational software on mobile devices, to make the devices available to schools. Greensource expect to be able to donate approx £20 per device to local charities. |
In addition to the basic functionality of Windows Mobile (Word and Excel), Greensource has installed Microsoft Reader for eBooks, and SUMS Maths - suitable for KS1,2,3,4 and SEN. This software alone usually costs £12.50 per device. See SUMS Primary and SUMS Secondary brochures here. |

Most are in immaculate condition, and many have probably never been used. Nevertheless, when you receive your order you have 14 days to check each PDA and have them swapped out with another if any problems are identified.
The devices are easy to use in a standalone manner. Files can be loaded and copied by using standard PC card readers with the SD card. They do not have Wireless if that is important to you (but see config guide below to add a £20 wireless card).
Processor is 416MHz. See manual link below for any more details of interest.
Comes with the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. RAM is only used for running applications. Flash ROM is where all application, PIM data, and file storage happens. This means that a flat battery does not mean the student's data is lost. |

Greensource Solutions are undertaking the pre-delivery inspection and despatch. They will include a price list and order form for optional additional consumables such as larger SD cards etc when PDAs are sent out. |

| 3. Recommendations for use in schools |
At a third to a quarter or less of the price of most new PDAs, the Dell Axim gives you a valuable tool to use in the classroom, and to use to develop experience about the benefits of handheld devices.
These devices are well suited to use in and out of class with small groups of students. If you combine the functionality provided by the device's multimedia capabilities, Word (document creation) and SUMS Maths (award winning numeracy games) then you have a fantastic resource at a very small cost.
SUMS Maths on handhelds is often used with Special Needs pupils, with top maths groups, and with those working from home.

A flat rate charge of £7.00 for post and packing is made on all orders, whether for one unit or 200.

Orders should be placed directly with GreenSource Solutions Ltd (address and main contact below). You may use fax, post, email or phone. An invoice for payment in 30 days will be issued at the time of despatch of your PDAs.

These are pre-owned devices and come with no guarantee except for the 14 day "sale or return" option. They are "sold as seen" though considerable effort is made by Greensource Solutions Ltd to check quality.
